What is a doula and what do they do?
A doula is a trained birth and postpartum support person who walks alongside you through one of the most transformative experiences of your life. I am not a medical professional - I don't deliver babies or provide clinical care. What I do is show up for you fully, consistency and without judgement. Before birth I help you feel informed, prepared and confident. During labour and birth, I offer continuous physical and emotional support, comfort measures and a steady calming presence, for you and your partner. And in the weeks after baby arrives, I come to you with nourishment, practical help and genuine care that helps you find your footing in motherhood.
Do I need a doula if I already have a midwife or OB?
Your midwife and OB are responsible for your medical care, and they do that beautifully. But their role is clinical, and they often have multiple patients to care for at once. A doula's role is entirely different. I am there solely for you, not managing your medical care, but holding your hand through it. I work alongside your care team to make sure you feel heard, respected and supported in every decision you make. Many women find that having both is the most empowering combination of all.
Does a doula replace my partner?
Absolutely not - and this is one of the most common concerns I hear, especially from partners. A doula works with your partner, not instead of them. I support your partner too, helping them feel confident, informed and present rather than overwhelmed or unsure of how to help. Many partners tell me afterwards that having a doula there actually allowed them to be more present and connected during the birth, because they weren't carrying the weight of it alone. You are a team, and I am simply there to support the whole team.
Can I have a doula for a caesarean birth?
Yes! Whether your caesarean is planned or unexpected, having support matters. While hospital policies are around who can be present in theatre, I can support you in the lead up, help you prepare emotionally and practically and be there in recovery and beyond. If a caesarean becomes part of your story in any way, planned or not, I am with you through it.
Do you support hospital births or only home births?
Both! I support births in whatever setting feels right for you, public or private hospital, birth centre or a home birth. My role looks the same regardless of where you choose to birth. what matters most is that you feel safe, supported and informed, wherever that is.
When should I book a doula?
As early as possible, ideally in your first or second trimester. Due to the on-call nature of birth support, I can only take a limited number of clients each month and spaces fill quickly. That said, if you are further along in your pregnancy, please still reach out. It is never too late to have support and I will always do my best to accommodate you if I can.
What areas do you service?
I am based on the Gold Coast and happily travel to surrounding areas for birth and postpartum visits. Travel fees may apply depending on the distance. I also have my Virtual Doula services for anyone who does want to work with me but are located somewhere else in Australia or even worldwide!
How does the first step work?
The first step is simple, fill out my enquiry form and I will be in touch within 24 - 48 hours. From there we will arrange a FREE 30 minute connect call via video so we can meet, you can ask any questions and we can see if we feel like the right fit for reach other. There is no obligation and no pressure, just a conversation.
How does payment work?
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your place. The raining balance is due by your 36th week of pregnancy. Payment plans are available, just ask and we will work something out that suits you.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes absolutely. I never want finances to be the reason a woman doesn't get the support she deserves. If a payment plan would make things easier for your family, please mention it when we chat and we will find something that works.
What happens if my baby comes before 38 weeks?
I am on call for you from 38 weeks, but if your baby decides to arrive earlier, please call me straight away. I will always do everything I can to be there for you, regardless of timing. We will discuss this further during our prenatal sessions so you feel prepared and confident in reaching out whenever you need me.
What does The Full Journey include?
The Full Journey is my primary offering. A continuous, wrap around container of support from early pregnancy all the way through to postpartum. It includes three prenatal sessions covering birth preparation, birth mapping and postpartum planning, on call support from 38 weeks, full birth attendance at home or hospital, golden hour photography, two postpartum visits and text and phone support throughout our entire journey together. It is designed for the women who wants to be truly held through the whole experience, not just parts of it.
Can I add extra postpartum support?
Yes. If you feel you would like more postpartum visits beyond what is included in your sessions, additional visits are available at a discounted rate of $250 for three hours. This can also be decided during your journey through postpartum.
What is the energy healing you offer?
Alongside my practical doula care, I bring an intuitive energetic layer of support that honours every part of you, not just the physical. Drawing on Reiki, sound and vibrational therapy, crystal healing, tuning forks and acupressure, this work supports your nervous system, emotional wellbeing and energetic field throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It is woven gently into our time together for those who are open to it.
